Meet Farkle!
Farkle is an adorable, block-headed, cropped-eared, American bully who happens to have narcolepsy. Farkle’s narcoleptic episodes are often triggered by his excitement over food or new toys. Farkle’s sleepy videos have turned him into a viral sensation on TikTok, garnering over 15 million views within two weeks after joining the platform. Farkle is the special needs ambassador for Touch of Grey Rescue, and is also the star of Farkle and Friends, a children’s book series based on real life rescue dogs.
Farkle and Friends Book Series
The first book in the Farkle and Friends book series, Farkle Finds His Furever Home, is based on the true story of his rescue. It’s a tale of love, acceptance, and never giving up hope.
The second book in the Farkle and Friends book series, ‘Twas the Night Before Dogmas, is a modern dog and rescue lovers twist on a Christmas classic.
Farkle’s story
In 2019, Farkle was surrendered by his owners after they thought he was having seizures. After several days of observation in his foster home, Farkle was diagnosed with narcolepsy, cataplexy, and sleep paralysis. Narcolepsy is characterized by sudden sleep spells and daytime drowsiness, while symptoms of cataplexy include a loss of muscle control due to heightened emotion. Farkle also experiences sleep paralysis, where he is conscious but unable to move parts of his body. Despite his disability, Farkle lives an incredibly full life. By sharing his story, we hope to increase awareness for special needs dogs, and show that they too have a place in this World.
